Summer haiku: Surf, rain, & sun(set)

[I've diverged from the traditional 5-7-5 format with the first two poems below.]

Two beautiful young blonde boys
Dancing through the surf
Making us smile so
Just by their presence.

Drip drop splish splash rain comes down
Soaking the already-soaked ground
So that our shoes leak.

Wait a little bit –
Wait a half-hour to see it.
Yes! Sparkling sunset.

Talk, Talk

Tired of list'ning
To everyone else's
Tales of this 'n that.

New door

Open a new door,
Step into the life you dreamed –
Feel the magic there.

Bright purple marker
Infuses words with color
Making each one sing.

Polka dot pj’s –
One small bright spot in winter,
Soft flannel and warm.

I wish I could stop
Thinking of time and deadlines –
Brain, please turn off now.

I've been inspired by my friend Julie to write some haikus, and I've decided to keep the momentum going by creating a blog where I can share them. For now, I am sticking with the traditional 5-7-5 format.

Here are a few to start with:

Lacking motivation,
The young girl just rolled over
And went back to sleep.

The purpose of art
Is to lead you deeper
Into your own heart.

She dreamed of flying
Over the tall green mountains
Into the wide sky.

Please let spring come soon --
I need to see some flowers.
They will soothe my soul.

Cosmo in her hand,
The young woman glides toward him,
Seeking adventure.

She picks up the phone,
Rapidly punches numbers,
Not stopping to think.
